ABOUT
After 10 years of being an American Sign Language interpreter, I am shifting focus into technical writing. My experience as an interpreter improved my skills to be able to take, in real time, one language, change the mode, consider the audience, adjust the message to fit the audience, and produce an effective message that is understood by them.
When I am not at work, I enjoy quiet time at home with my cats, husband, and 20-year-old son, (when I see him). My husband and I have recently started traveling more internationally, which is a life-long dream for both of us.
SKILLS & EXPERTISE
Technical writing is a profession that takes the highly technical language specific to a particular industry and turns it into language that is accessible and user-centered to anyone. This is exactly what an interpreter does. Both professions require flexibility, adaptability, quick thinking, problem-solving, confidentiality, and being equally comfortable working in a team and working independently. It also requires knowing how to match the tone of the audience, from casual to formal. I have worked in various fields, from construction to medical to educational to professional.
I am comfortable working with Word and Power Point, and -draw.io for creating flow charts.
